1. Introduction

Capture ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Capture web application at trycapture.ai and the Capture Chrome extension. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our services.

2. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash).

Recording data: When you use the Chrome extension to record a guide, we collect:

Screenshots of the web pages you record
User interaction events (clicks, text inputs, scrolling, keyboard actions)
Page URLs and DOM element descriptions on the recorded pages

Usage data: We collect basic analytics about how you use the service, including pages visited and features used.

Payment information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details — Stripe handles this securely.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

Provide and improve the Capture service
Generate step-by-step guides from your recordings using AI
Authenticate your account and manage your subscription
Send important service-related communications

4. AI Processing

Your recording data (screenshots and interaction events) is sent to third-party AI providers (OpenAI and Anthropic) to generate guide descriptions. These providers process the data according to their respective privacy policies and do not use your data to train their models when accessed via their APIs.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic) — to generate guide content
Stripe — to process payments
Google Cloud Platform — to host our infrastructure

Guides you mark as "Public" or "Company" are accessible to others per those sharing settings. Private guides are only accessible to you and people you explicitly share with.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Google Cloud Platform servers in the United States. We use encryption in transit (TLS) and follow industry-standard security practices to protect your data. Screenshots are stored in Google Cloud Storage with access controls.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data and guides within 30 days. Some data may be retained in backups for up to 90 days.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your account and data
Export your guides and data

9. Chrome Extension

The Capture Chrome extension only captures data when you explicitly start a recording. It does not collect data in the background, track your browsing history, or run on the Capture web application itself. All captured data is sent directly to our servers over HTTPS.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through the service. Continued use of Capture after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
